Meeting Minutes for February 23, 2006
Present at the Meeting:
Andy Lyon, Patti Lyon, Doug Lohmeier, James Owens, Jim Owens, Pat Casey
Topics Discussed:
· Reviewed meeting minutes from January 19, 2006
· Adletta finished headwall. Turned out great. No handrail needed.
· Need general maintenance on gravel trail to fill in low spots. There are some muddy areas.
· Andy Lyon’s Eagle project.
o Discussed tree types. Deciduous, native trees such as oaks, maples, etc.
o 10 trees of 5 different varieties.
o Get a concrete, not wooden bench for trail along Wyscarver.
o Budgeted $1,200.00 for purchasing trees wholesale from nursery by Village of Evendale.
· James Owens’ Eagle project.
o James has go-ahead from committee to put in trail as marked and altered by committee members that walked the trail.
o James is to put more prominent flags for wheeled end loader guidelines.
o As needed drainage pipes will be put in as the end loader clears trees from the path.
· Committee agrees to suggestion to spread existing mulch pile on east side of creek onto the flat spot created when the trail and headwall was installed on the creek crossover. A single picnic table to be placed in this location.
· Maintenance suggested a garbage can on the property, and the committee agrees to try one garbage can located at the parking lot.
· Maintenance will install field tile in meadow low spots to reduce swampy conditions and reduce the amount of water running over the trails.
· Maintenance will grade the gravel trail on east side of creek going up the hill to discourage water from running down the trail itself for reduced erosion of the trail.
· Prairie grass will be planted on a trial basis in the northeast corner of the wildflower meadow.
· Committee agreed to continue meetings every month instead of going to every other month.
· Meeting will be moved to the conference room next to the ladies rest room in the recreation center pending approval of the recreation center.
· Tabled discussion until a future meeting to determine if the preserve will be opened up to camping by local organizations such as the Boy and Girl Scouts.
· Committee turned down the suggestion to put white pine trees around the parking lot. Committee wants more deciduous trees for better sight lines through the property.
Action Items:
· Maintenance to install plastic cover on signboard & post guidelines.
· Maintenance to make and install 12”x20” Horncastle signboard & post guidelines. (In process)
· Andy Lyon to continue work on Eagle project to install trees on Wyscarver
· James Owens to put additional trail markers for the end loader to clear trees. Maintenance to run the end loader to clear the trees.
· Joe Asbrock and scouts to install a duck box in the pond area.
· Maintenance to work on
o Gravel on trails where needed
o Insert field tile in low spots
